It’s impossible to ignore – there is a concern as the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) evolves. COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person that has symptoms including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever and, in the more severe cases, difficulty breathing.
As a commitment to our Members as well as staff, we are implementing strategic plans and precautions addressing the situation to help mitigate risks. Because senior adults appear to be most vulnerable to the virus, we are monitoring the COVID-19 situation through information, calls and webinars provided regularly by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Steps Ventana is Taking to Keep Residents and Staff Safe
At this time, we have implemented a variety of precautions within our community, including a limited access visitation policy and encouraging Members to practice social distancing. We are taking this situation seriously and are not making decisions lightly.
While some changes have been made, such as delivering meals and suspending group activities, we are continuously serving Members and assure there is enough food and supplies for an extended period of time. Our suppliers have assured us there are no issues with their supply and ability to continue providing us service.
We continue to evaluate and update our policies and how we respond to this situation as it develops. Please reference this page on our parent company’s website for the most up-to-date announcements and information.
Chuck Childress, Executive Director, shared, “The biggest changes are on the operations side of things with how our team has prepared. I’m not seeing much change with our Members, which is a sign we are doing our jobs well.”
How Our Residents Feel About Living at Ventana During COVID-19
Speaking of Members, we got a sense of how they’re feeling about living at Ventana during the COVID-19 outbreak.
When we spoke with Scott and Nancy Morgan, they said:
“Well, what can I say? This is an experience none of us has experienced in our lifetime. Ventana has taken all of the necessary steps to keep us safe and protected. The staff/associates have been very professional and knowledgeable. They have kept us informed from the very beginning of this experience and continue to do so. This is very important to us.
Since the dining rooms are closed, we miss seeing other residents/friends and staff each day and look forward to the day dining re-opens. We enjoy visiting and having a social life here at Ventana. Social distancing has changed that. Even though we feel isolated at times, we are happy to be at Ventana because we know we are cared for.
Everyone seems to be calm and upbeat. We keep the faith and know Who is in charge.”
We also talked with Member Irmgard Arthur who weighed in the COVID-19 pandemic:
“Living here as a Member of Ventana by Buckner, I feel very well taken care of during this Coronavirus emergency. Not only do we get our meals delivered to our apartments, but we have the assurance that the staff is thoroughly screened and in good health. While eating some of our meals on the outdoor patio we still maintain social distancing…With all these precautions we are sure to get through this health emergency in great shape.”
