The Review includes a juried exhibition and encompasses a broad view of facilities designed for senior living, including Continuing Care Retirement Communities like Ventana. The Review seeks to demonstrate architectural design trends and recognize excellence, and to serve as a reference for providers, developers, users, advocates, architects and other design professionals of senior living.

Green House® Home Approach

One of the advanced design features of Ventana’s Health Center will be the Green House® home approach to the Skilled Nursing Center design. A radical departure from traditional skilled nursing design, the Green House home design creates several smaller, more intimate settings for residents. The design is centered around warm and inviting living, dining and activity spaces. There are no more than 12 residents per “neighborhood,” meaning hospital-style corridors and other institutional elements are a thing of the past.

Caretakers will be cross-trained to attend to their residents in a variety of ways, just as they would for their own family members. The primary purpose of the Green House home model is to serve as a place where residents can receive assistance and support with activities of daily living and clinical care, but the care would not be the entire focus of their existence. The Green House model is intended to de-institutionalize long-term care by creating a more social living setting.
